According to Khabar Khodro, Aston Martin will pour the largest investment in its history into developing a new sports car platform.
“We are engineering a completely new architecture and technologies to ensure that our next generation of sports cars is at the forefront of design, performance and technology,” Aston Martin CFO Hanno Kirner said. “The strategic partnership with Daimler AG will bring with it cutting edge electrical and electronic expertise, and the shared development of bespoke V8 powertrains.”
Previous reports suggested that the partnership between Aston Martin and Mercedes AMG might also pave the way for platform sharing between the companies. That idea is being shelved while Aston Martin focuses on co-developing engines with AMG and engineering its own future platform.
The British sports car brand didn’t say anything about whether or not the new architecture will also underpin the long-rumored Lagonda SUV.
